In response to a recent post about mormons by SMCADULTS

SMCADULTS’s summary of Mormon belief is highly inaccurate.

As a fellow member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (otherwise known as the ‘Mormon Church’), their tumblr post is not representational of church doctrine, and it is not accurate. If you wish to learn accurate information about the church, it’s beliefs, it’s doctrine, as well as it’s history, you can visit the official website of the LDS Mormon Church at this address: http://lds.org/?lang=eng

Among the inaccurate (and quite insulting) ‘attempts’ at portraying what they apparently assume to be church doctrine, the striking sentences accusing Joseph Smith of being a murderer is a completely flip flopped, false-spirited and clearly intentional lie in an effort to tarnish his name, as well as demean the origins of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Their version:  ”Smith was jailed in 1844 for breaking into a building and smashing printing presses of dissidents and critics. He was broken out of jail by followers, a shootout ensued and one or two people were allegedly killed or wounded by Smith’s gun. He himself died in the shootout and is now hailed as a martyr by the LDS community. His followers eventually moved the LDS community to Utah to be free from persecution and ridicule.”

The ACCURATE Version:

Despite his promises of protection and a fair trial, Governor Ford allowed the Smiths to be imprisoned by their enemies without bail and without a hearing on a wholly new charge of treason for having declared martial law in Nauvoo. Stating that he had to “satisfy the people,” the Governor ignored clear warnings of danger and disbanded most of the troops. He then left the hostile Carthage Greys to guard the jail and took the most dependable troops with him to Nauvoo.

During the governor’s absence, a mob of between one hundred and two hundred armed men-many of them from the disbanded Warsaw militia-gathered in late afternoon, blackened their faces with mud and gunpowder, and then stormed the jail. In less than two minutes, they overcame feigned resistance from the Greys, rushed upstairs, and fired through the closed door. Hyrum, shot first, died instantly. John Taylor, an apostle, tried to escape out a window and was shot five times, but survived to later become the Church’s third President. Only Willard Richards, another apostle, survived unharmed. Trying to go out the window to deflect attention from the two survivors inside, Joseph Smith was hit in the chest and collarbone with two shots from the open doorway and two more from outside the window. His final words as he fell to the ground outside the jail were, “O Lord, my God!” (HC 6:618). As rumors spread that the Mormons were coming, the mob dispersed.” - The Encyclopedia of Mormonism

I can understand if somebody makes the mistake of believing that Mormons still practice polygamy, but for someone to actually LIE and try to coerce people into believing that Joseph Smith was a murderer and a thief… is an absolute assault on the church and Mormons all over the world.

 Joseph Smith was murdered.
